Fell into bed last night in a hotel in Belfast - thinking about the enormous effort & planning that went into the day’s event 🤫
It never ceases to amaze me how midwifery students organise conferences as well as studying full time, and being on busy clinical placements. Wow.
The future midwives invited and coordinated speakers, dealt with bookings, catering & planning the programme - and it ran like clockwork in the FABULOUS historical @queensuniversity building. 🚀💥🌟🤱🏻✅💪🏼 Thank you for inviting me @deirbhilemurphy13 💚
Walking from the hotel to THIS spectacular building Queen’s University Belfast - to speak at the All Student Midwife Conference 💚☘️
Just worried that my hair would curl 👀 but it hasn’t 😂
Looking forward to meeting lots of fabulous future midwives!

Having this little grandie around is a treat, to say the least. A trip to the library...hmmmm.
You made a beautiful boy @anjpriz @tombyrom83 ❤️
Leaving Norway yesterday with special memories of fabulous friendships, family times & warrior birth activists. We were summoned to Drammen by the wonderful @jordmornaturligvis to share our experiences and ideas for change - why is it that everywhere I go in the world, women’s autonomy during childbirth is restricted? ❄️ Thank you to all who made us so welcome, to @acbmidwife ❤️ James & Will, to Cass & Steve, and to my dear friend @hannahdahlen for love and wisdom! #soulsisters
Speaking about the things I used to do in the 1970s as a young midwife - yesterday at @jordmornaturligvis Birth Festival in Drammen, Norway #fødselsfestivalen2018 👶🏼
I told the delegates how I used to starve women in labour, do routine episiotomies on all women having their first babies, separate mothers and babies, and much more. I was taught this way, no such thing as evidence based care, and I didn’t know what I didn’t know.
I had 2 children under this ‘regime’ - and I thought it was OK. •
Then in 1980 I went to work in a Birth Centre, and I had an epiphany. I saw birth in a different light - women having babies without routine interventions, walking, eating in labour - to Mozart playing on a cassette machine. •
That’s why I tell my story. Unless mothers and midwives see birth as another way, they won’t know what they don’t know.
CHRISTMAS 🎄 is coming & I’m panicking as we haven’t done any preparation 😫 BUT I refuse to get sucked into the hype...
We’re in Norway, Oslo today, on the way to see the Viking ship ✅ with @acbmidwife and family (some of)
