Loving photo memories of all kinds....  

Phew. It’s been an exciting & BUSY couple days! haven’t even had time to jump on Instagram 😜 It’s been like a a massive party, with wonderful midwives and student midwives. And see if you can see ‘Aunty Gill’ @gillbyrom 🙋🏻‍♀️ (our biggest @the_practising_midwife_journal supporter!) it was her first @midwives_rcm event 💥 Soo & I delighted to be invited to speak about the importance of respecting the physiology of childbearing women their babies. There is a birth crisis - like the climate crisis - detailed in our new book #SquaringTheCircle 📖 And we had a party too! It’s was our 2nd birthday - @acbmidwife 💥 we smashed it 💥 • #RCMconf19

I’m on the train finalising my slides for the talk I’m giving with Prof Soo Downe at the @midwives_rcm on Wednesday. Soo is presenting the reality & consequences of childbirth practices globally, and she will mention the most recent National Maternity & Perinatal Audit which reveals that ONLY 23.5% of women giving birth to their first baby do so without (recorded) medical intervention. This is shocking. My talk will focus on what we can do - and how we can do it. I think it will be an important session for midwives - we’ll be writing it up. #normalbirth #respectphysiology #childbirth #midwives #midwifery #studentmidwives

THIS. I couldn’t protest as I was speaking at a conference, to 150 student midwives in Leicestershire. But I made sure to mention Greta, and also to remind the (mainly) young women that not only do we have a climate crisis, but a birth crisis, and they hold the power to change it. To believe they can.🙏🏽 REPOSTED from the lovely @mumologist Yesterday I accompanied my children and some of their school friends to the climate strike by Parliament. We walked through crowds of thousands on Millbank to get to Victoria Gardens and listened to students talking about the importance of making our voices heard. Despite the numbers, the atmosphere was peaceful and we got lots of smiles from big students as we walked through with our small ones. ⁣ ⁣ And all of that started- what they are saying is the biggest climate protest EVER- with the actions of a girl when she was 15. And supported by parents who, the story goes, she persuaded to join her mission. If there was ever any doubt that we have much to learn from our children, I think yesterday’s action ended that. ⁣ What have you learned from your children that you weren’t expecting to?
