Last night we had the first celebration 🍾 for our #rubywedding - last night with family here in Pittsburgh. Thanks John & Sue & wonderful niece @vjameson for FABULOUS evening. We’ll never forget it. #familytime #celebrations #40yearanniversary #40yearsisalongtime

Yesterday I visited a SPECTACULAR #birthcentre in #pittsburgh 🇺🇸 @midwifecenter - an unusual birth space within the maternity system in the US. Over 400 births a year here, community engagement focusing on accessibility, and WOW! What an environment. SWIPE LEFT to see some of the rooms, where women and their families are welcomed. The midwives and staff reach out to welcome all women, regardless of background, race, colour, language. I am inspired - a chink of light in a huge crowd. Thanks to you all..I’ll mention you at #NormalBirth18 next week 👌🏽 #midwiferylife #doulalife #midwifery #midwiferystudent #rubywedding #birthcentre

I’ve waited until now to share this, as my mum always taught us not to ‘brag’. But as the date for the ceremony approaches, I thought I’d post it - as I feel proud for my family, my profession, the university that I studied at, and for women in general. Those of you who know me well know that there’s been many trials to contend with in my work - last year at this time I featured negatively (and unjustly) in a national newspaper. It made me feel quite ill, and I had to stay quiet. So this is the perfect antidote, and I hope it gives others who are facing bullying and negative pressure, hope for the future. Thank you for the honour @uclanuni - and to the person who put my name forward. #Celebration #Positive #Midwifery #Midwife #honorarydoctorate
